About Us

Advancing women leaders in Alberta’s public safety community

Supporting. Connecting. Empowering.

In 2016, a small but powerful gathering of senior women leaders in Alberta policing marked the beginning of something extraordinary. What started as a conversation among 12 women—none of whom had met before—quickly grew into a movement. Recognizing the need for connection, mentorship, and advocacy, these trailblazers laid the foundation for Alberta Women in Public Safety (AWIPS), a nonprofit dedicated to uplifting women in policing and public safety.

With the steadfast support of then-Assistant Deputy Minister Kim Armstrong (Status of Women Alberta) and facilitator Jen Beyer, AWIPS evolved into a vital network that fosters growth, leadership, and inclusivity. Today, we champion women across agencies through mentorship, events, and awards—ensuring their voices are heard, their contributions celebrated, and their potential unlocked.

Together, we’re shaping a future where women lead, inspire, and redefine what’s possible in public safety.
